With most of the major technical and visual adjustments already implemented in previous weeks, this stage was dedicated to small compositing refinements and preparing our final deliverables, including the breakdown video and poster layout.
Mentors Feedback
Mentors suggested exploring additional layering techniques within compositing to further separate elements and refine edge integration between particles and the environment. One note involved softening the edges of background particles so they blend more naturally into the scene rather than appearing too defined.
There were also suggestions to introduce an additional layer of particles that could subtly activate lighting in the scene, helping reinforce the interaction between the particles and the environment.
Finally, mentors recommended increasing motion blur in the hero shot to enhance the sense of movement and reduce the slightly rigid appearance of the particle motion.
Week 10 Work Plan
Based on this feedback, we just made the small changes noted :
Breakdown video - Team/Sofia
Poster Layout - Team/Riley
Make Dof more marked on Shot 3 - Sofia
Blur particle line and add motion blur on Shot 3 - Sofia
For this week, the work was mostly in completing the final compositing adjustments and supporting the preparation of our presentation materials. For Shot 3, I refined the depth of field to make the focus falloff while also softened the particle line and introduced additional motion blur to improve the sense of motion and integrate the particles more naturally within the frame.
Alongside these adjustments, the team finish producing the final breakdown video, which highlights the different layers and processes used throughout all of the quarter.
Before closing this project, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who made this experience so meaningful.
A huge thank you to our mentors from Harbor and ETC— Kyle, Beck, Molly, Pheya, Hailey, Drew, Emma, and Billy — for their constant feedback, encouragement, and thoughtful critiques throughout the process. Your insights pushed us to keep refining our work and helped us grow both technically and creatively.
I’m also very grateful to Professor Bridget and Professor Fowler for their guidance and support during the class. Your advice and patience helped us navigate challenges and better understand the many layers involved in bringing a project like this together.
Most importantly, I want to thank my teammates — Itim, Yiqi, Benji and Riley. Working alongside you all throughout the quarter made this project incredibly rewarding. From long work sessions to critiques and problem-solving together, we not only built this project but also formed a really supportive and collaborative environment. I’m truly grateful for the experience we shared.
This project was as much about teamwork and learning from each other as it was about the final result. I’m thankful for the experience we shared and proud of what we were able to create together.
