February 16-22, 2026

Week 7 focused on consistency and refinement across shots, particularly in particle behavior, lighting continuity, and compositing balance. The feedback this week emphasized technical precision and visual cohesion, especially within our hero shots.

Mentors Feedback

This week’s critiques centered heavily on particle consistency and lighting control. Kyle noted that particle behavior feels inconsistent across shots, particularly in Shot 1 where the ground effects around the printer could be pushed much brighter to enhance visual impact. At the same time, the particles themselves are currently overexposed, causing color information to appear blown out. Adjusting the grade to preserve saturation and detail was recommended.

For Shot 3, the updated lighting direction was received positively, with encouragement to maintain that consistency throughout the entire shot. However, the particle color does not fully match the painting, appearing too red in the center. Additionally, the particle disappearance effect feels as though it happens twice, which disrupts the visual flow.

Beck suggested avoiding keyframing particle scale and instead using attributes such as time or age to drive Pscale variation procedurally. Using camera frustum-based scaling in a wrangle was also recommended to improve depth and integration.

Week 7 Work Plan

Based on this feedback, we established the following plan:

  • Ensure Shot 3 lighting remains consistent throughout - Benji/Itim

  • Shot 3 wood object should be bumpy + smoother edges - Benji

  • Correct Shot 4 lighting setup - Benji

FX Testing

  • Ensure particle size consistency while maintaining irregularity in Shot 1 - Yiqi

  • Introduce more random emission and particle shadows in Shot 2 - Yiqi

  • Adjust particle color in Shot 3 to better match the image and extend on-screen duration - Riley

Compositing

  • Shot 1 get bottom brighter + reduce over exposed particles - Sofia

  • Get motion vectors to work on particles - Sofia

We decided to remove the objects in Shot 4, as they were not contributing meaningfully to the sequence. Our focus is now fully directed toward strengthening the hero shots to maximize impact and efficiency.

My Focus This Week

This week, my focus is on continuing to integrate mentor feedback through compositing adjustments. As the team generates updated AOVs reflecting the new FX and lighting changes, I will adapt and restructure the Nuke node tree to match the revised specifications.

I will be refining particle grading to reduce overexposure, strengthening ground interaction brightness in Shot 1, and preparing motion vector integration to improve particle blending and temporal consistency.

Week 7 Week 8

Shot 1 new tree in Nuke
Shot 1 new tree in Nuke

What we start working as well is the motion vector layer to give the trail paths that the mentors had mentioned on one of their feedbacks.
